Chemistry Merit Badge

The Chemistry Merit Badge is being offered by the Troop in March and April.  If you want to participate, please contact Mrs. Edner.  The Merit Badge Counselor for this Merit Badge is Mr. Turner.

 

Chemistry Merit Badge Instructions:


1. Fill out a “Blue Card” for the Chemistry Merit Badge.
2. Read the Chemistry Merit Badge book.
3. Print out the merit badge workbook (see link below).
4. Before the first merit badge meeting, do the following items from the worksheet at home: 1, 2b, 2c. Be prepared to discuss your answers at the merit badge meeting.


If you were not prepared for the first merit badge meeting, do the worksheet 1, 2b and 2c before the second meeting and bring a small glass jar with a tight-fitting lid if you want to do the copper sulfate experiment.


5. Bring an empty, clear two liter soda bottle to the second merit badge meeting.


6. Bring a bottle of antacid (e.g., Tums, Rolaids, etc.) to the second merit badge meeting.


7. Before the third merit badge meeting, do the following items from the worksheet at home: 4b,4c, 5, 6. Be prepared to discuss your answers at the merit badge meeting.

Update 4/13:  The group has completed 1 - 4 on the instructions.  See Mr. Turner if you've missed any the meetings or want to join in.  The next Chemistry session will be 4/19.
 
Update 5/4: Several of the requirements have been completed including 2 and 3.  If you need instructions on how to complete those on your own, see Mr. Turner.  The final two sessions will be held on 5/10 (at the Troop meeting) and on 5/23 from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM in the St. Timothy's kitchen.
